Regional Founds

What are Regional Funds?

It is through the Regional Funds that we annually transfer resources to programs aimed at reducing energy generation costs in the Amazon and revitalizing water resources in various locations throughout Brazil.

 

Law No. 14,182/2021, which established the privatization of Eletrobras, now AXIA Energia, created the obligation to maintain, for 10 years, Regional Funds for the revitalization of water resources in the São Francisco and Parnaíba river basins, as well as the areas of influence of the Furnas Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoirs.

 

These funds also finance projects to reduce energy generation costs in the Pro-Legal Amazon Program and improve the navigability of the Madeira and Tocantins rivers. The initiative seeks to promote sustainable development in Brazil, balancing environmental preservation and economic growth.

According to Law No. 14,182/2021, Decree No. 10,838/2021, Decree No. 11,059/2022, and Resolution No. 15/2021 of the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE), Eletrobras, now AXIA Energia, will make financial contributions for 10 years starting in 2023 to the following programs:

The revitalization of water resources is a set of actions aimed at the preservation, conservation, and recovery of river basins. These areas are fundamental for environmental balance and the supply of water for various uses.

Pro-Legal Amazon

We invested in structural actions for the Legal Amazon region, focusing on reducing energy generation costs, improving navigability on the Madeira and Tocantins rivers, and supporting the interconnection between Manaus and Boa Vista.

History of Amounts Contributed

Actions and projects related to legislation, as well as audit assumptions, are approved by the Management Committees, led by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) in the case of the Legal Amazon, and by the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) for actions to revitalize river basins.
