Water Resources Revitalization
The revitalization of water resources is a set of actions focused on preserving, conserving, and restoring river basins. These areas are essential for environmental balance and for ensuring water supply for various uses.
To organize the allocation of resources, two specific accounts were created:
CPR São Francisco and Parnaíba: focused on the São Francisco and Parnaíba river basins;
CPR Furnas: directed to the area of influence of the reservoirs of the Furnas hydroelectric power plants.
These accounts fund actions that help maintain and increase the amount of water available in the rivers, also contributing to the proper functioning of the reservoirs—without compromising the different uses of water, such as consumption, agriculture, and power generation.
The types of actions funded include:
Fostering water infiltration into the soil
Reducing sediment runoff caused by rain
Promoting conscious water use and combating waste
Ensuring proper aquifer recharge
Controlling the pollution of water bodies
Preventing extreme floods and droughts
Ensuring water availability and quality for multiple uses
Adopting an integrated view of the territory
Sharing information, best practices, and knowledge on water and soil conservation.
